COEAI BAN: Swara Bhaskar, Paresh Rawal, Sajid Nadiadwala, Varun Dhawan Support Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India’s ban on the release of films featuring Pakistani artistes has put an uncertainty on the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as it features Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan
A while ago we told you that Anurag Kashyap is standing by Karan Johar after Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) decided to ban his upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 4 states (You Haven’t Said Sorry For Your Trip To Meet Pakistani PM: Anurag Kashyap Lashes Out At PM Narendra Modi, Oct 16). Now, Bollywood folk including Swara Bhaskar, Paresh Rawal and Sajid Nadiadwala has also come out in full support of the filmmaker.
Sajid is of the opinion that COEAI should reconsider the move as it would result in huge losses for the film. At an event, he said, “It's unfortunate with Karan, that this film started two years back when the situation was different. We are going to request all the parties, all the concerned authorities, that he is an Indian. An Indian should not suffer from the hands of another Indian. We will humbly go and request everyone. He is an Indian citizen, please help him.”
Varun Dhawan, who was present at the event along with Sajid asserted that he completely stands by what Sajid has said.
Actor and BJP MP Paresh Rawal and Swara Bhaskar expressed their opinions on social media. While Paresh stood by the fact that producers are being punished for no fault of theirs, Swara said that the “ban is a good example of how cinema in India is vulnerable to all kinds of arbit rage and misguided passion of everyone.”
A number of other Bollywood names such as Om Puri, Shyam Benegal, Vikram Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt and Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani have also slammed the ban on the release of films which have completed production.
